CBD and competitive sports (part 1): What’s behind it?

Posted on

This is the 1st post in our two-part series on CBD and competitive sports. In the second part, we asked trail runner Michael about his experiences: CBD and competitive sports: Experiences of an extreme athlete.

CBD oil is on everyone’s lips and is used as a “miracle cure” for almost any ailment.

And what about sports? There, too, it is increasingly used as a natural doping. It helps many athletes recover, but has also led to the suspension of top athletes.

Amateur athletes, top athletes and also ambitious hobby athletes already take CBD.

What many do not know: The body has its own endogenous cannabinoid system, [1] thus produces its own cannabinoid. This system is involved in brain development, motor control, immunological regulation, and pain perception, among others.

CBD as an anti-inflammatory

CBD oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It can also help speed up the healing process and even have a preventive effect – in fact, the anti-inflammatory properties act like cell protection.

Helpful against sore muscles

Muscle soreness is actually tiny, harmless muscle fiber tears. The muscle fiber tears also inflammation. Therefore, CBD has a healing effect here as well.

Against performance pressure and for better sleep

In addition, CBD oil can improve sleep quality and lower stress levels, both of which are important for athletes who need to perform at peak levels.

Be on the safe side

For athletes looking for an edge over the competition, or looking for a natural way to improve health, CBD oil might be worth considering. It’s best to talk to your doctor about whether CBD is right for you. It is important to use a broad spectrum, THC-free oil. Then you also have no problems with possible doping controls in professional sports, because CBD products are already for years no longer on the list of banned substances.
